Policies on Financial Aid for Students’ Research Presentation

at External Conferences

1. In an effort to promote research by students at Keio University, the Keio Economic Society shall provide them financial aid for part of the cost incurred when they participate as paper presenters in external conferences.

2. Those eligible to receive funding are students enrolled in the Graduate School of Economics (master’s or doctoral program) and those enrolled in the Faculty of Economics during the academic year concerned.  This requires an approval of the supervising professor.  Note that this excludes those who receive funding for participating in conferences through other organizations and sources of financial support. We accept applications from Adjunct Researchers (“Shourei-kenkyuin”) of the Graduate School of Economics who are unable to receive funding from the school.

3. Meetings eligible for financial aid include annual conferences recognized by cooperative academic and research bodies of the Science Council of Japan and/or members of the Keio Economic Society Committee. Papers written by multiple co-authors are also eligible for funding; however, only the cost of one presenter at the conference shall be subsidized.

4. The funding covers expenses related to conference participation fees, travel, and accommodations. Details of these are presented separately.

5. Those who wish to receive funding must complete the application form as required by the Keio Economic Society and submit it at least one month prior to the date when the paper will be presented. The applicant must attach official documents to confirm that he or she has been invited to present a paper at the conference or attach the conference program distributed to the public. Alternatively, applicant can provide the programs on the website which shows that he or she is on the program as a presenter.

6. After receiving the presenter’s application, the Keio Economic Society will decide at its next committee meeting whether to accept the application, and will determine the amount of funding available to the student.

7.  Applicants whose applications are accepted are obligated to submit the following documents within 6 months after the conference. After the submission of (1),(2) and (3), our society will give the applicant a subsidy. If the submission deadline has passed, the application will be invalidated.

(1)Financial report: Include all receipts for conference participation fees, travel expenses, and accommodations expenses.

(2)Abstract of conference paper.

(3)Certificate of paper submission (academic journals or preprint papers): Include a mail (or email)  from publishers or a date stamp uploading to SSRN.

8.  Funding will not be provided in excess of the scope of the fiscal year budget of the Keio Economic Society.

9. The papers for which funding is received will have their title, author, and conference name published in the first edition of the subsequent year’s Keio Economic Society’s project report, the “Mita Journal of Economics.”
